This discount is available as a result of a January 1998 ruling by the Texas Insurance Commission that ordered insurers to provide discounts for hail-resistant roofs installed on or after February 17, 1998.

So how do you know if the roof you are selecting is hail-resistant? When selecting materials, look for the Class Rating. To qualify, roof-covering materials must undergo impact resistance tests developed by Underwriters Laboratories (designated as UL-2218). Roofing materials successfully tested by Underwriters Laboratory in accordance with UL2218 are classified as to impact resistance in one of four classes, Class 1 - Class 4. A Class 4 roof covering offers the best hail protection and will receive the highest discounts under the Commission's order.
